A close view of the shaped radius using a spokeshave and the drawknife. The stock thickness is 7/8." Fancy cupboards with porringer shelves such as this have shaped corners that can be a simple radius, or a cove, a cove and bead, or an ogee shape. And, the whole shelf edge itself may have just a straight sawed (i.e. square cut ) edge, a radius, a thumbnail or even an ogee with or without a shoulder - the latter two must be carved -, which is obviously very time consuming. I changed this one from the original, just having a radius'ed corner, to the cove and bead, which came from a Meriden, Ct. plaster back cupboard I own and that my client preferred. >
