This is not an exact replica, but is a composite of three chairs, the 'best of' you might say of chairs of the Bay Colony. The legs are from a Carver chair at the Wadsworth Afheneum, (all maple), the spindles are from a chair at Winterthur, (ash), and the top crest rail is from the Brewster armchair at the MMA, New York, (also ash). All parts of my replica are made of maple except the seat stretchers, which are hickory. It is also made taller, wider and deeper. The chair is colored a light brown with a linseed oil and beeswax finish. I also turned loose rings on the front two spindles under the arm support, for fun. The splint seat has a two over two woven pattern, also colored. Note that O A means over all, not stretcher length between the legs.
