A Chest- on- Frame as the original at the MMA in New York, 1670-1700, made of old materials from my clients house materials, white oak, white pine and maple. The maple is old wood but not from their house. I made this Chamber Table with the center octagon having the center design of the James Symonds Valuables Cabinet with the initials of the owners carved in, as they wanted. It looked great ! But, as the original at the MMA looks like the above, they subsequently removed it ! Huh ! One very similar 'Chamber Table' but with four turned legs, sold in New York at the time for $360,000 on the condition that after the sale it would be x-rayed for authenticity. It was found to have modern construction joynery and made probably in the late 19th century. " Its a fake" was the talk of the day. So, lets say I build a 'table ' out of period wood that my client wants, ( I have done that many times, people want "old"), using all the old methods, did I make a 'fake'? No, I made what my customer wanted. A hundred years from now... let the fun begin, just like it does now! 1990. The Henry Crane House in Litchfield County, Ct.
