Tall Post Bed

Tall Post Bed

A tall post "pencil post" bed with a double - double arch headboard made in "Tiger" maple. 1983. The dating of this tall post style ( ca 1750) is not certain, but, because the use of chamfering with the lambs-tongue termination dates back to the 17th century, the Fairbanks house summer beam in Dedham, Ma. 1637, and the Parson Capen house summer beam in Topsfield, Ma. 1683, and others, its not improbable that this design was used earlier on beds. Rutland County, Vt.

Headboards however, were simple and of little attention. Headboards for myself and a modern clientele desire...more. The headboard design here is taken from a W&M armchair, a double arch only repeated. Headboards during the Chippendale period in urban cities required more focus. I've added only four designs to the originals that exist for my clientele's options (more may come), three are W&M / Queen Anne, and one Chippendale.
